The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is India's largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) that functions under the purview of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. It was established in 1939 as the Crown Representative's Police (CRP) to assist the British rulers in maintaining law and order in the country. After India gained independence in 1947, the force was renamed as the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
The CRPF is primarily responsible for maintaining internal security and law and order in India. It is also deployed for counter-insurgency operations and anti-Naxal operations. The force is known for its expertise in handling law and order situations, disaster management, and VIP security.
The CRPF has around 300,000 personnel, including both men and women, and is divided into various units such as battalions, groups, and sectors. The force has its headquarters in New Delhi and is headed by a Director General (DG).
Apart from its primary responsibilities, the CRPF also plays an important role in providing security to vital installations, conducting election duties, and assisting in the maintenance of peace and security during major events and festivals
